Every building and home has gaps and cracks in it, allowing airflow to penetrate. Caulk is the sealing agent that stops this! Caulking is the process used to seal or fill a gap between two surfaces, such as tiles and your benchtop in a bathroom, or wood and metal in your windows. Caulk is an elastic substance that can be moulded into crevices and used in bathrooms, kitchens, floors, roofs, windows, ceilings or any other surface where two edges join.
The purpose of caulking is to provide thermal insulation to a space, stop water leakage or penetration and close gaps where dust, air or insects may be able to enter. Sealing unwanted cracks or holes in your home is a great way to improve the warmth and security of your home.
A caulking gun is the most common tool used to apply caulking sealants to the material that requires it. Interested in learning more about caulking? Read our How To Guide.
