Turn an old mid-century chair that’s ready for the dump into a hero piece for your home.

What you need

Instructions

Step 1: Mix ½ cup of Selleys® Sugar Soap into ½ bucket (5 litres) of water. Use a soft clean cloth to clean the chair from top to bottom with the solution.

Step 2: Fill any gaps in the wood with Selleys® Knead It® Multipurpose. Wear protective gloves and cut off the required amount, then knead with fingers to a uniform colour. If mixing is difficult, warm to room temperature. Apply it to the surfaces that need repairing, and mould to shape if required. For a smooth appearance, first remove excess then hand rub with water or a damp cloth before hardening begins.

Step 3: Repair any loose or broken joints in the legs of the chair, with Selleys® Araldite® Super Strength. Dispense equal parts of both liquids onto a clean disposable surface and mix both parts together thoroughly. Apply mixed glue into the leg joints, then bring together. Hold the joints together using tape and leave for 24 hours before moving it.

Step 4: Once legs are dry, sand down the wood all over the chair. Clean down again with Selleys® Sugar Soap to remove any excess sanding dust. Once wood is dry, paint with Feast Watson® Clear Varnish to give it a clear sheen.

Step 5: Sit in your new chair, and relax!
